Which fruits help fight allergy symptoms?

In 2020, Atlanta saw the highest pollen counts on record citywide and nationwide. One day, it reached as high as 8,900. That means misery for those with pollen allergies. At that point, symptoms can become unbearable forcing people to stay inside. And guess what? There are plenty of allergens inside too – dust, mold, pet dander, etc.

The best treatment for allergies is to receive an allergy test from the ENT Institute. From there, we can determine which allergens you’re sensitive to and create a form of immunotherapy to build up a natural defense.

Having said that though, if you need an extra little boost to lighten up the symptoms a bit, then this is the blog for you. We’ll list out a few fruits that are great at fighting those symptoms and will help build up your immune system.

Most fruits with Vitamin-C are your best options since they help reduce histamine levels. According to Everday Health, “In addition to its histamine-fighting power, vitamin C foods also provide allergy relief by reducing inflammation — the key to underplaying allergies” (Bowers, 2017). While Vitamin-C is the best to minimize symptoms, here’s a list of specific fruits to try:

  • Pineapple
  • Kiwi
  • Strawberries
  • Apples
  • Blueberries
  • Red Grapes
  • Watermelon

If you’re struggling with allergies and are not sure which allergens affect you the most, you can receive an allergy test from us by calling 770-740-1860 or filling out the form at the top of the page. Same-day appointments available.
