What you should know about Botox

Tell me more about Botox.

Botox, or its formal name of Onobotulinumtoxin A, is a noninvasive cosmetic procedure that can either slow the progression or minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It does not get rid of the appearance of wrinkles (static lines)- this would be dermal fillers like Juvederm or Voluma. Botox temporarily “rids” the face of movement (dynamic lines) by inhibiting the ability of the muscle to move which then, over time, causes static lines (wrinkles). Botox has little to no downtime and you will see results typically within 3-7days and lasting 3-4 months. It isn’t dangerous although there are risks as with any procedure but they are minimal and we discuss them with you before starting the injection process. Results do vary from patient to patient. We inject Botox based on “units”. Some patients only need a few per area while others need many, all of which dependent on the strength of your muscles and your metabolism. We always follow up with you to make sure you are pleased with your results. Our injectors err on the side of caution and would prefer to underinject and have you need more units later than to overinject, overcharge, and possibly inhibit too much movement.  Your health is more than a medical diagnosis and should you feel your dynamic lines need consult, we are happy to assist and hope you’ll schedule an appointment.
