Hearing Loss Might Impact Your Income

If anything is going to motivate someone  to get hearing aids, it should be the combination of health issues. In some cases, that’s not a concern. But what about hearing loss and its influence on your income? What if we were to tell you that hearing loss might impact your income and even unemployment?

According to The Hearing Journal, people with hearing loss make about 25% less than those without hearing loss. . This is approximately a $10,000 Looking at the numbers, that can almost be a $10,000/year difference. Hearinghealthfoundation.com suggests that job transitions for those with hearing loss are much more difficult. To make matters worse, this is not an isolated issue as it impacts society as a whole.  Imagine the lost income of all the employees along with that of the unemployed with hearing loss. It costs about $26 billion in taxes and another large chunk of change in those that are underemployed in their fields.

As a resolution, many workplaces are obligated to accommodate an individual’s hearing loss. This might include hearing devices, a specialized  phone with live caption, or other assistant listening devices to perform the job efficiently.

In order to remain proactive and when faced with this obstacle, it is in your best interest to receive a hearing screening from a hearing health professional at the Ear, Nose and Throat Institute, our audiologists can assess and further accommodate your hearing needs.
