Chronic Sinus Infection Treatments with ENT Institute
Georgia-based ENT Institute: Committed to Treating Disorders of the Ears, Nose and ThroatIf a sinus infection last more than three months, it is considered a chronic sinus infection or chronic sinusitis. Untreated chronic sinus infections may cause damage to the sinus cavities and/or the cheekbones. Chronic sinus infections should not be ignored, it’s important to be properly diagnosed and discuss treatment options with an ENT Institute specialist.
During the beginning stages of treatment for chronic sinus infections, an ENT Institute specialist may prescribe medications to alleviate symptoms, including:
- Antibiotics
- Decongestants
- Nasal Steroid Sprays
- Antihistamines
On occasions when physician and patient find that the infections are recurrent and/or non-responsive to the medication, sinus surgery to enlarge the openings that drain the sinuses is an option.
A clinical history of the patient will be created by an ENT Institute physician before any surgery is performed. A careful diagnostic workup is necessary to identify the underlying cause of the chronic sinus infections, which is often found in the anterior ethmoid area, where the maxillary and frontal sinuses connect with the nose. Often, this will include a CT scan of the sinuses to determine the best approach.
ENT Institute physicians strive to provide superior care to all our patients, including those that suffer from chronic sinus infections. To learn more about the ENT Institute or to schedule a consultation with a specialist about chronic sinus infection treatments, please call (770) 810-7266.
